Senior Mechanical Engineer
Alaa (Al) is ALFA+ Project Leaders Inc.'s President and Director. He has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Al is a licensed Professional Engineer and a designated Consulting Engineer in Ontario, a Master Electrician, a LEED Accredited Professional and a certified Project Management Professional. He is responsible for providing executive leadership to the Company and managing its growth. He is very involved and hands-on with all projects. Al is dynamic, innovative and always available for clients.
A 2003 graduate of the University of Ottawa Electrical Engineering program, his professional development began in 2003 in the Yukon where he joined a multidisciplinary firm working mainly in the northern territories. He then moved to Toronto where he worked for a national engineering firm. He was mostly involved in sustainable designs of high rise office towers. Al then moved to Ottawa where he joined and became an Associate of a local influential mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm. In January 2017, Al started ALFA+ Project Leaders Inc.
Al has distinguished himself as a design Engineer with the knowledge and skills of a Master Electrician and a Project Manager, where he can relate to the client, the design team and the contractors. He has strong business and technical abilities and is an effective manager of the firm's resources ensuring consistent high quality in the delivery of services rendered by ALFA+.
Al has extensive experience in the commercial, institutional, residential, government, health care and high-tech sectors. He also has experience in different project delivery methods such as design-build and design-bid-build. Al has exceptional project engineering and management experience. His skills also include integrated building design, engineering calculations, financial management, construction management and oversight.
From time to time, Al gives back to the community by providing mentorship to newcomers with engineering degrees to help them integrate into the Canadian engineering market.
Faouzi Trabelsi heads our mechanical engineering department. He has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. Faouzi is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. Faouzi provides detailed mechanical design and project management services for commercial, institutional, recreational, cultural, and industrial facilities. His work has included the in-depth study and design of high energy efficient systems, supervision and management of projects, coordination, scheduling, and preparation of a breakdown structure for the project tasks to assure completion of work on time; evaluating existing systems and conducting energy savings studies and budget prices of differing types.
Faouzi's expertise includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, heat reclaim, building automation systems, fire protection, plumbing, water filtration, pumping stations, emergency generators, indoor air quality, renewable energies and energy systems. He also has experience in facilities’ and life cycle management. He is computer literate with advanced proficiency in project management applications, word processing, spreadsheets, program research, and presentations.
Faouzi has acquired specialized Building Engineering knowledge involving HVAC, steam, hydronic and energy management, and control systems including lighting controls. He is involved with mechanical system condition assessments, building recommissioning, construction quality control, construction site safety, commissioning, and post-construction evaluation.
He regularly attends major industry conferences, seminars, and trade shows to keep abreast with new technologies.
